De Caai Milk Reception

Existing tiled walls, tiled floors, landings, the characteristic meetingroom for the drivers who came to deliver the milk have been preserved. Even the contours of the old Campina milk tanks are still visible. Moreover, one of the concrete pedestals of the milk tanks now carries the distillation boiler. Nevertheless, a number of adjustments have been necessary to bring the Milk Reception up to current requirements in terms of its new function and (fire) safety: doors have been (re)installed on the east façade and terrace doors have been installed on the west façade. The adjustments were designed at the time by Wenink Holtkamp Architects. 

The Milk Reception now requires maintenance and restoration to maintain the monumental characteristics, as described in the Heritage Vision Rapport, in the long term. In addition, sustainability options are being considered. This always involves weighing functionality and feasibility against cultural-historical values. The most important interventions are the replacement of the single glass with hr++ glass and the embellishment/reconstruction of a number of façade sections. The original design of the infills of the concrete frames is partly restored in this way. The Melkontvangst is part of Zuivelfabriek Campina and is closely linked to the Melkfabriek, for which Niels Olivier Architect also designed the transformation. This is particularly the case for the exterior. Intended adjustments to the Milk Reception take account, where applicable, of the adjustments as realised for the Milk Factory. Detailing and colouring will therefore be closely aligned with the Milk Factory.
